At the start of the Paris Olympics, we tallied all the ACC athletes representing the U.S. Now that the games have wrapped up, we’re tallying all the medals ACC athletes brought home — a whopping 73 total medals1, including 32 golds.
Much like the athlete representation — where they accounted for nearly 60% of ACC athletes — our California newcomers delivered more than their fair share of medals. Stanford (35 medals) and Cal (12 medals) won nearly two-thirds of all ACC Olympic hardware. See the full medal breakdown below, as well as some superlatives.
ACC x Olympics Superlatives
Top Female Athlete(s) — Torri Huske (Stanford, Swimming) and Regan Smith (Stanford, Swimming): Huske and Smith will share this honor, much like they shared gold as teammates on the women’s 4x100 medley relay. Both won 5 medals, which is the biggest haul of any U.S. Paris Olympian. If we’re splitting hairs, Huske might’ve had a more impressive run, winning 3 golds and 2 silvers (to Smith’s 2 gold and 3 silvers) and setting a world record as part of the 4x100 mixed medley relay.
Top Male Athlete — Ryan Murphy (Cal, Swimming): Murphy totaled 3 medals (one of each color), tied for the most of any U.S. male Paris Olympian. He also shared in the 4x100 mixed medley relay world record with Huske.
Top School — Stanford: Stanford sent the most athletes (32) and won the most medals (35) of any ACC school, and as the chart below shows, it wasn’t particularly close.
